In both lineage and philosophy, elemental architecture llc is directly linked to the Modern tradition that saw architecture as deriving much of its inspiration from the solutions to problems, both grand and pragmatic. Today, the question of a sustainable existence is perhaps the single most pressing issue facing the practice of architecture and, thus, a profound force shaping rational design. Buildings, in their construction and operation, consume well over one-third of all energy resources expended in the US. Planning decisions impact transportation options. Development strategies affect water collection and distribution.
Recognizing that environmental consciousness must exist in a climate that understands and supports its application and, conversely, that architecture has great power to communicate, elemental has recently added strategic positioning and communication design through the formation of sine elemental llc, identity and communication. The broad goal is to create the resource efficiency solutions that organizations now need to survive and flourish in an increasingly volatile business environment.
Although just three years old, sine has already received two major design awards as well as having been commissioned to create the identity for two important “green” projects in New York City. Similarly, elemental architecture continues the practice that received the National AIA Committee on the Environment Top Ten Award and is currently incorporating “green” design strategies to ground-up new buildings including a nineteen-story hotel and a fourteen-story mixed-use condominium as well as wrapping up the latest phase of the precedent-setting historic reconstruction of Shepard Hall at the City College of New York. | | | | | | Experience Level | | | Expertise: Tom Abraham brings to elemental over a decade of experience in both design and education. His work includes the design and management of a wide variety of projects, ranging from institutional facilities and commercial interiors to single family and large scale residential projects and object design. With such firms as Croxton Collaborative Architects, SWN Architects and Stephen Yablon Architect, Mr. Abraham’s work has been profiled in publications such as Metropolis, Interior Design and Oculus.
Mr. Abraham complements his leadership at elemental with a continuing commitment to education. Mr. Abraham has served on numerous academic reviews, has taught at The City College of New York School of Architecture and has served on the faculty of New York University College of Arts and Science.
Twice invited to Italy for A.A.R.C. Academy’s ideas design competition, Mr. Abraham has had his work exhibited at the Fondazione Vittorio Mazzucconi & La Triennale Di Milano, Italy as well as at The Cooper Union. Mr. Abraham was also selected to participate in the Emerging New York Architects mentee program by the New York Chapter of the American Institute of Architects and in 2011 named to ENR New York | McGraw-Hill Construction's inaugural “Top 20 Under 40.”
A graduate of The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, Mr. Abraham is also a LEED Accredited Professional by the US Green Building Council, a member of both the American Institute of Architects and NCARB as well as being licensed to practice architecture in New York State. | | | | CREDENTIALS | | | | Awards | | | | Title: | Top 20 Under 40 | | Awarded By: | ENR New York - McGraw Hill Construction | | Date: | Feb 2011 | | Description: | Named to ENR New York | McGraw-Hill Construction's inaugural “Top 20 Under 40.” | | | | | | Title: | Reader's Choice Award | | Awarded By: | STEP Into Design | | Date: | Feb 2008 | | | | | | Title: | Regional Design Annual | | Awarded By: | Print Magazine | | Date: | Dec 2007 | | Description: | Our branding and collateral development was given the honor of inclusion in the design annual - a compendium of the best in design for that year | | | | License | | | | Type: | Registered Architect, NYS | | License Number: | 032662 | | | | Type: | LEED Acredited Professional | | License Number: | n/a | | | | EDUCATION | | | | School: | The Cooper Union | | Date Graduated: | May 1998 | | Degree: | B.Arch | | Study Field: | Architecture | | | | GROUPS AND ASSOCIATIONS | | | | Group: | US Green Building Council | | Start Date: | Jun 2006 | | | | Group: | National Council of Architectural Registration Boards | | Start Date: | Aug 2008 | | | | Group: | American Institute of Architects | | Start Date: | Aug 2008 | | |
